Aston Villa confirm loan signing of defender Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.

Clement Lenglet, a French defender on loan from Barcelona, has joined Aston Villa.

The centre-back joins Villa Park on a season-long loan from the Spanish champions, having spent the previous season on loan at Tottenham.

Last season, Lenglet made 35 appearances for Spurs and scored in the club’s 2-1 Champions League triumph over Marseille, which helped Tottenham top their group.

He has 15 caps for France and will provide defensive backup for Unai Emery’s side following Tyrone Mings’ knee injury in the opening day defeat to Newcastle.

‘I’m really, very delighted to be here,’ Lenglet remarked after singing for the Villains. ‘It’s a genuine delight.

‘I played against them last year with Tottenham, and it was extremely difficult to play against Aston Villa.

‘I chatted with the manager and Monchi throughout the summer, and I’m very happy to be here.

‘I’m thrilled to be spending a year with the team.’

Villa manager Unai Emery was overjoyed with the deal and the support he will provide his defense.

‘Lenglet was an excellent opportunity,’ Emery remarked.

‘He has played at a high level in Europe. He is capable of assisting and supporting Pau Torres on the same side. ‘I am content.’

The Spanish manager also indicated that Philippe Coutinho may leave the club before the deadline.

‘He is on the verge of leaving,’ he adds. We’re waiting to see if the transaction has completed. We spoke with him and agreed that if there was a better opportunity for him and the club, he could leave and attempt to find his best form.’

Lenglet is Villa’s fifth signing of the summer, joining Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby, Youri Tielemans, and Nicolo Zaniolo.

Aston Villa loanee in line to feature for Rotherham United against Huddersfield Town.

Transfer signing deadline Sebastian Revan could make his Rotherham United debut this weekend as they face Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.

When Rotherham United go to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, new signing Sebastian Revan might make his debut. On deadline day, the 20-year-old joined the Millers on loan from Aston Villa.

However, Revan was bought too late to play in Rotherham United’s surprise home win over Norwich City before the international break. Revan, who won the FA Youth Cup with Villa in 2021, is anticipated to compete for Cohen Bramall’s left-back berth.

Rotherham has had a hectic summer. The South Yorkshire club has signed 13 new players, but manager Matt Taylor claims a “couple of free agents” are on the way.

“We want to improve the central defensive position and add another attacking-type midfielder who can play off either side,” he told the Rotherham Advertiser.

“We want to improve the central defensive position and add another attacking-type midfielder who can play off either side,” he told the Rotherham Advertiser.

“I’m very comfortable with many aspects of the squad right now, but I believe we can get stronger.” I’d like to have more options. I still expect at least one more arrival in the next week or so.”

Rotherham are hoping that Hakeem Odoffin and Georgie Kelly will be available for selection in the Yorkshire derby this Saturday. Midfielder Odoffin and striker Kelly, both of whom scored against Town last season, are on the mend after hamstring and knee injuries, respectively. The injuries occurred in the first month of the season.

Jamie Lindsay’s match at John Smith’s Stadium is likely to come too soon. Due to an Achilles injury, the midfielder has yet to play this season. His problem required an injection, which will further postpone his return.

“He’s had a jab, so that might limit him for a week or two, but not long term,” Taylor explained.

Former Town players Lee Peltier and Grant Hall are getting “closer” to first-team returns as Rotherham try to capitalise on their hard-fought win over Norwich. The Millers are 20th in the rankings with four points from five games, although they are ahead of the Terriers on goal difference.
