The Gold Coast Suns lose Jed Anderson.

Jed Anderson will depart the Gold Coast Suns after not being offered a contract for the 2024 season.

Anderson finished his AFL career stranded on 99 games after ten seasons at the elite level with Hawthorn, North Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Known for his ferocious attack on the man and the football, Anderson was a solid contributor in the Kangaroos midfield for a handful of years.

He had a career-best season with North Melbourne in 2020, placing third in the club’s best-and-fairest, the Syd Barker Medal.

The 29-year-old grew up in the Northern Territory and was originally pre-listed by Greater Western Sydney before being traded to the Hawks for 2008 premiership player Stephen Gilham.

He spent three years at the Hawks resulting in 10 games before leaving to join the Kangaroos.

The Warramungu man was due to play his 100th AFL game in Round 23 of last year, but suffered a concussion against Adelaide the previous week.

At the conclusion of the 2022 season the Kangaroos announced the coaching appointment of Alastair Clarkson – Anderson’s former coach at the Hawks – and the tough midfielder was advised he would not be offered a contract for the following season.

He received a lifeline after being listed by the Suns as a supplementary selection period signing.

Anderson played eight VFL games for the Suns including a 28-disposal performance against Southport, before being granted indefinite personal leave by the club in June to return home to Darwin.

The Suns announced that Brodie McLaughlin and Charlie Constable would also depart the club.

Gold Coast Player Talent and Strategy Manager Craig Cameron thanked the departing players for their time at the club.

“While Brodie and Jed didn’t play any senior games for the club, they both played significant roles in establishing the dominance of our VFL program which has seen the club claim its first VFL premiership last month,” Cameron said.

“We wish them all the best of luck for their next opportunity.”

Anderson is expected to play in the Northern Territory Football League this upcoming season.
