A former player with the New England Patriots requests that Bill Belichick leave the NFL.
The renowned NFL coach is currently 71 years old and has been in the league since 1975.

With the New England Patriots finishing 2023 with a 1-5 record after falling to the Las Vegas Raiders 21-17, Tedy Bruschi has called on Bill Belichick to step down from the NFL.

The Patriots gave up points in every quarter and have only averaged 12 points per game in 2023/24, and were shutout by the New Orleans Saints on October 8th.

Belichick, who is one of the most successful coaches of all-time and is now 71, has faced suggestions he should hand over the reins of the historic organization to somebody with new ideas, and sail off into the sunset whilst his legacy is still undisputable. The voices include Bill Bruschi, who played as a linebacker for Belichick between 2000-2008.

“What do I personally feel (about) how this should go, and how this should end with Bill Belichick?” Bruschi said to ESPN. “This is just my personal feeling on what should happen. I want him to coach his butt off this season and get six, seven wins, right?”

“Having them played respectable by the end of the season, and walk away. That’s what I want my former coach to do. Shula doesn’t matter. You’ve got multiple Super Bowls over Shula. You’re a better coach.”

Belichick needs 17 wins to surpass Don Shula‘s record for most career victories, which stands at 347 and was achieved with the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins. However, at the current rate of the Pats in 2023, he would be in the game until he is 87 years old in order to break the record.

With nothing left to prove, some feel it is the right time for him to step back and Bruschi is the latest to add his voice to that call, even feeling that Belichick is now unable to connect with his players.

“To start the game with two penalties (on offense),” Bruschi said. “To finish the game with three penalties. This is a sign that Bill isn’t reaching these guys.”

The fixture will be held at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts with the Patriots looking to improve their record to 2-5, whilst Josh Allen‘s Bills bid to improve to 5-2.
