The City of Nanaimo is excited to announce the opening of eight new outdoor pickleball courts at Beban Park, reflecting the sport’s rising popularity across Vancouver Island. With the opening set for October 31, locals can look forward to a day filled with activities, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, demonstration matches, and pickleball clinics for enthusiasts of all levels.

Situated at the recreation complex on Bowen Road, these fully-fenced courts are designed to enhance the experience for players. After the official opening festivities, the courts will be open for public play, allowing both seasoned players and newcomers to enjoy this dynamic sport. The development, which includes two more courts than the previous site on Beaufort, was made possible through collaboration with local players and the Nanaimo Pickleball Club, ensuring the new facilities meet community needs.

Mayor Leonard Krog expressed enthusiasm for the addition, noting that the new courts are a significant enhancement to the recreational offerings at Beban Park. He acknowledged the sport’s increasing popularity, stating, “Pickleball is incredibly popular, and I know these courts will be well used. Play on!” This sentiment echoes the broader trend as pickleball continues to gain traction, touted as the fastest-growing sport in the United States for the past three years.
