Rangers ‘complication’ after a poor last season, but pushes to big up Ibrox benefits
The Colombian forward reckons he has European pedigree to bring to Santos.
Alfredo Morelos has admitted that his final season with the Rangers was marred by a’very complex’ scenario.
But the confident former Ibrox attacker, who took his time finding a new club after leaving Glasgow in May after a six-year tenure, is using his European pedigree to demonstrate what he can do in front of goal. Morelos became the Light Blues’ record scorer on the continent while playing as an understudy in his final game under Michael Beale, despite his fitness and attitude earlier being questioned.
Morelos’ move to Fenerbahce to rejoin with Ryan Kent fell through, but Santos in Brazil came calling. At his official club debut, the 27-year-old disclosed that his ‘complex’ injury, which caused Morelos to miss parts of the season, meant he didn’t play in what he called “marquee games.” But the hitman isn’t backing down from his track record in Light Blue and wants the Brazilian team to break out of their slump.
“Obviously, there wasn’t a lot of game time at Rangers last season due to a very complicated injury,” he remarked of his time there. It was nevertheless a season in which I scored twelve goals, despite the fact that I missed the majority of the important matches. But playing in Europe, in the Europa League and the Champions League, was a fantastic experience. In my little stint in European football, I have accomplished significant things.
“I’m going to bring that experience to Santos; what I want to do is bring it to the institution of this club, a very large one, with this vision and this desire.” It is my responsibility, and this is the mindset I have at Santos, to go ahead of this awful scenario we are in.”
