Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali played for Italy in their 1-1 draw with North Macedonia yesterday, casting doubt on their chances of qualifying for Euro 2024.
The Italians seized the lead early in the second half through Ciro Immobile, but they were pegged back in the 81st minute when Enis Bardhi equalized for the hosts.
Tonali played the most of the game before being substituted in the 89th minute due to a yellow card.
The Magpies midfielder expressed his disappointment after the match to Sky Sports Italia.

Tonali’s Italy will face Ukraine on Tuesday night, who will be buoyed by their 1-1 draw with England. It is a critical encounter for the Italians, who are now three points behind Ukraine; a win would put them second after the Three Lions, while a defeat would lower them to fourth, six points below second provided North Macedonia avoids defeat against Malta.
It would be a disaster for Italy if they did not qualify, given the circumstances.
