New in history as England hopes to lure him away from  Scots

Elliot Anderson Scotland future IS in doubt as Gareth Southgate discusses England interest

The midfielder pulled out of the Scotland squad, apparently with injury, and could now switch

Elliot Anderson, who withdrew from the Scotland team, might switch his national allegiance back to England.

The Whitley Bay-born midfielder has played at youth levels and is eligible for Steve Clarke’s team through his grandmother, though he did play for England under-19s in between. When he was called up for Friday’s Euro 2024 qualifier with Cyprus and the friendly match against his native nation, it seemed as though he had committed his future to us.

The Newcastle star withdrew, citing an ailment at the time, but it also meant that he wasn’t guaranteed a spot for Scotland because he hadn’t played for us in any competitive matches at the highest level. And as of late, Gareth Southgate, who likes the player, hasn’t ruled out a move.

He said: “We liked him and we do like him. He’s a player that’s doing really well.

He was obviously called into their squad earlier this week, but I’m not sure of his current status. I observed him being removed.

“Let’s see, John and others from our organization will be picking that up. We really enjoy him as a player.
