Clancy Grandy Joins British Curling as Coach for 2024-25 Season

Clancy Grandy, the accomplished Canadian curler, has decided to step away from competitive play for the 2024-25 season to embrace a new role with British Curling’s coaching staff. This transition marks a significant shift in her career as she moves from a leading player to a coaching position. Grandy expressed her enthusiasm for this new chapter, stating that her long-held ambition to transition into high-performance coaching has come to fruition at the perfect time. She has long admired the robust program and dedicated athletes within British Curling, making this opportunity particularly exciting and fitting for her career goals.

At 33 years old, Grandy has an extensive curling background. She led British Columbia in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts for the past two years and has experience in coaching, having worked with the Netherlands Curling Association from 2018 to 2022 and with Curl BC in a high-performance development role. Now based in Scotland, Grandy will collaborate with Ross Paterson to mentor the women’s teams aiming for a spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

In her new role, Grandy aims to support the women’s program while familiarizing herself with the coaching systems in place. She has been welcomed warmly by her new colleagues and is eager to contribute to the teams’ success across various tours and championships this season. Grandy’s short-term goal is to enhance her understanding of the coaching environment and to be an effective support for the athletes she will work with.

Looking ahead, Grandy is setting her sights on coaching at prestigious events such as the World Championships and the Olympics. She is excited about the prospect of contributing to British Curling’s world-class program and is committed to continually challenging herself to gain deeper insights and improve the foundation she provides for current and future athletes.

Before her move, Grandy spent most of her curling career in Ontario but relocated to British Columbia for the 2022-23 season. Under her leadership, Team Grandy achieved notable success, securing back-to-back BC Scotties titles in 2023 and 2024 and representing the province at the Canadian women’s curling championships. Despite their strong performance, the team fell short in the playoffs during both years but demonstrated resilience and skill throughout their campaigns.
