In an emotional tribute to one of Germany’s most iconic performers, a life-size statue of Rammstein’s lead vocalist Till Lindemann was unveiled in the district of Evershagen, Rostock—only to be stolen within a few hours of its installation.
The statue, created by artist Roxxy Roxx, was intended as a heartfelt celebration of Lindemann’s artistic legacy and a nod to his roots. Positioned in front of the building where the musician spent his childhood, the piece was unveiled in honor of his 60th birthday. The tribute carried deep emotional weight for fans and residents alike, aiming to immortalize Lindemann’s connection to his hometown.
However, the gesture took an unfortunate turn shortly after the unveiling. According to reports from local police, the statue was reported missing around 10:00 a.m. the following morning. Only a broken lock and chain remained at the scene, leading investigators to open a case of suspected theft. Authorities are currently seeking information from potential witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity in the area.
The artwork was constructed from simple materials, weighing approximately 40 kilograms including its base, and was funded modestly with about 600 euros. Despite its relatively humble scale, the statue held significant symbolic value. Roxxy Roxx noted that the work was not just about celebrity worship but a way to recognize Lindemann’s journey from a small-town boy to a world-renowned performer.
This is not the first time one of Roxx’s public installations has vanished. A similar fate befell a statue created in honor of rapper Marteria in 2019, raising questions about the safety and permanence of public tributes. The recurrence of such incidents casts a shadow on efforts to use public art as a means of cultural and personal homage.
Although the physical tribute has disappeared, the act of remembrance continues to resonate. The statue’s sudden disappearance mirrors themes of impermanence and fleeting legacy, ideas that are also explored in Lindemann’s recent work. In a way, the incident adds another layer of meaning to an already poignant homage.
