The Boston Celtics ‘still clearly value’ nearly-traded veteran

 

 

Boston Celtics veteran Malcolm Brogdon is “still clearly valued” by the organization according to Boston.com’s Luke Scotchie.

“The Celtics clearly value Brogdon, even though they nearly parted ways with him,” Scotchie prefaced before saying, “They still have faith in him and regret the negative press the trade rumors gave him. Brogdon will remain a Celtic for the time being, and his team will continue to trust him for the foreseeable future.” Joe Mazzulla had previously acknowledged that there’d be a long road to healing for the reigning Sixth Man of the Year and the organization.

 

 

“The organization has had a few conversations [with Brogdon],” Mazzulla told reporters, per CLNS Media. “I think anytime that you’re in a situation like that and you’re in a relationship, you just have to take small steps into it. There’s a healing process, there’s a listening process, and there’s a process towards — this is where we’re at and this is where we have to get to. So, we’ve had some conversations as an organization, but at the same time we understand the situation that it was and as the healing process goes on we’ll continue to move just forward as well as we can.”

 

Stevens’ stance on Brogdon’s relationship with the Boston Celtics organization essentially confirmed what Mazzulla said.

“Malcolm is really important,” Stevens said shortly after the Kristaps Porzingis trade. “That was tough. He certainly doesn’t deserve that, and I feel for him. We’ve talked, obviously, since then. There are a lot of narratives out there because of that, that certainly are inaccurate.”

There’s not been much in the way of Brogdon chatter following the near-deal, though it’s unknown how the healing process has gone thus far. We’ll have a better idea as training camp nears.
