Villa will still be without eight players for their first Premier League match in front of home fans this weekend, as Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings were added to the injury list last week. Both players suffered serious knee injuries and will spend a significant period of time in rehabilitation.

Jacob Ramsey, Alex Moreno, Leander Dendoncker and Tim Iroegbunam are all still out, while Jhon Duran and Bertrand Traore are not expected to feature having only returned to training this week. Villa lost Mings in the 5-1 opening weekend defeat to Newcastle United last Saturday, and head coach Emery is expecting a reaction from his players.

Villa will play five games over the next fortnight and Emery is likely to rotate his starting XI with two Europa Conference League play-off legs against Hibernian coming this month. Ahead of the match with Everton, Emery has provided an update on his side’s fitness.

“We have two long injuries with Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings and now it’s their moment to be with their family,” he said. “It will be a long time until they are back with us, and then we have to continue trying to carry on in our way and we are recovering some players, Bertrand Traore and Jhon Duran.

“They have started to train with us, Alex Moreno is close to being part of us and Jacob Ramsey is still some weeks to come back with us. We hope for a good impact at home in this first match with our supporters.”
