Latest Coventry City news from CoventryLive as manager discusses dressing room and training ground changes designed to help Sky Blues go one better this season

Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said there is a ‘breath of fresh air’ blowing through the club with work being done on the infrastructure as well as the playing squad this summer.

Sky Blues picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, beating Middlesbrough 3-0 thanks to Matty Godden, Haji Wright and an own goal.

Victory came after the beaten play-off finalists started the season with 2-1 defeats against Leicester City and AFC Wimbledon. Those two games saw a number of chances come and go for Coventry, something that changed at the weekend.

Reacting to the win, Robins outlined the importance of earning the first three points of the season, while also highlighting the work that has gone on behind the scenes as well as in the transfer window this summer.

“I think over two games we had almost 40 chances to score goals and we’ve got a penalty and a header from a set play and nothing else to show for it, so it was an important game today for the players really – for the supporters as well – not least because we’ve got a lot of new players in and we’re trying to get that winning feeling,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“Winning at home is really important. The dressing room has changed, the owners have spent a lot of money on the stadium, the pitch, the dressing room area and it’s absolutely fantastic, it feels so much better.

“The training ground pitches have been done, so the whole club feels a breath of fresh air running through it, so that’s brilliant. The two players who have left have obviously given us a headache, but also an opportunity and that’s been backed by Doug (King) as well and thankfully we are in the throes of a recruitment drive.”

Following the sale of Gustavo Hamer to Sheffield United, Robins revealed he would like to add ‘three or four’ new players before the end of the transfer window. City have so far added nine new faces to their squad.
