Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James, the 55th selection overall in the NBA Draft, has been the most talked-about rookie of the summer.
The main reason for this is, of course, as Bronny is the son of LeBron James and he plays for the same club, but ever since the Lakers selected him, there has been a steady conversation about him. Bronny, on the other hand, has handled things quite well and has never really replied to all of the critics. But many have weighed in on whether he truly deserves this chance with the Lakers, given his early failures in Summer League.
However, a lot of people have also defended him; the most recent being comedic icon Kevin Hart. Hart discussed Bronny in an interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, pointing out that the compliments people have given him are being overshadowed by the attacks. She added, “I think my message first would be a message to Bronny.”
You’re no stranger to like, public warfare, you’ve grown up in it. Your father has been in the headlines since he was 18. Everybody loves the story of the good guy, but everybody really wants the story of the bad guy. There’s a lot of good things that are being said about Bronny right now as well, but you can’t hear it over the volume that people are adding to the bad things.”
Hart would go on to say that erasing the potential power of negativity with the correct mindset and awareness that many people only wish to focus on it is important.“If you have a smart concept and approach to dealing with any of that, then it means nothing. It’s just words, it’s hearsay. Their job is to create conversation and bandwidth that can allow them moments for more conversation. As a journalist, if you have nothing to talk about, well this s*** gets old fast. If I’m Bronny, step one: grab that mindset.”
The good news is that Bronny appears to have adopted this attitude already and isn’t giving a damn about everything bad that others are saying about him. Additionally, his play with the Lakers in the previous several Summer League games has improved as he has grown more at ease on the court.
Bronny is being held to an unrealistic standard and there is simply no way out of this for him. But all that counts is that he keeps working hard so he can make the most of this opportunity to play with the Lakers.
In the Lakers’ Summer League victory, Chet Holmgren claims that Bronny James “looked like a pro.”
Against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Lakers’ Summer League victory, Bronny James put on his second consecutive outstanding performance. Along with his key efforts in the comeback victory, he finished with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Even Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder noticed, remarking that Bronny “looked like a pro” in Las Vegas.
