Even though the Boston Celtics won a record-breaking 18 championships only one day ago in the NBA Finals, it’s still not too early to look at who the favourites are to win it all next season.
Regretfully, the Los Angeles Lakers’ chances of winning the NBA title in 2025 are very slim. The Lakers are not even among the top-12 or even top-10 favourites to win the title. Instead, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Lakers have just the 14th-best odds (+4000) to win a championship in 2025.
With +300 chances to win the title again, Boston, the defending champions, have the best odds of any club. The Denver Nuggets, the 2023 champions, are ranked second with +750 odds. With +850 chances, the Minnesota Timberwolves are ranked third, while the Dallas Mavericks are ranked fourth with +900 odds. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Milwaukee Bucks are now deadlocked for fifth place with +1000 odds.
The Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors are also ranked higher of the Lakers.
Of course, there are good reasons why the Lakers’ chances aren’t better. They had to win the NBA Play-In Tournament in order to advance to the playoffs, and they weren’t always as strong as they may have been throughout the regular season. Then, in the Western Conference Playoffs, they were unable to go past the opening round.
Even still, the low chances for a squad headlined by LeBron James and Anthony Davis are obviously discouraging. Every year, these two superstars ought to be in the running, but that hasn’t always been the case.
