The Pittsburgh Steelers are poised for a significant shift at quarterback as they prepare for their upcoming matchup against the New York Jets. Head coach Mike Tomlin announced that veteran Russell Wilson will receive first-team practice reps, indicating a potential change in the starting lineup. This marks Wilson’s return to full health, as he is no longer on the injury report, which could set the stage for his first start this season.

Justin Fields has been the starting quarterback for the Steelers throughout the first six games, leading the team to a respectable 4-2 record. This puts Pittsburgh in a tie for the top spot in the AFC North alongside the Baltimore Ravens. However, Fields’ performance has been inconsistent, prompting him to openly reflect on his play. He candidly stated, “I don’t think I played good enough, if I’m being real with you,” acknowledging the need for improvement.

Currently, Fields has completed 66.3 percent of his passes, accumulating 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception. He has also added a notable 231 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities.
