Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offload their 29-year-old utility man Eric Dier in the ongoing transfer window.
According to a report by the Football Inisder, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to part ways with Eric Dier. The 29-year-old English defender is not in the plans of their new manager Ange Postecoglou. As a result,
they are ready to cash in on him.
Dier joined the London club back in 2014. He came through the ranks at Sporting CP before making the move to Spurs. The 29-year-old has been a great servant for the club over the last nine years. He has been
asked to play in different roles and has always done his bit without any fuss.
He started off in a midfield role and slowly started featuring in the heart of the defence. Last season, the English international, who pockets £85,000-a-week wages, featured in a total of 42 matches and all of those
appearances came while playing as a centre-back.
Despite playing an important role last season and racking up over 3,600 minutes, the England international could part ways with the club in the ongoing transfer window. One of the major reasons for his possible
departure is the dip that was seen in his performances in the 2022/23 season.
Spurs were not at their best defensively, and he was one of the culprits. Postecoglou does not trust the 29-year-old with the job and does not have him in his plans moving forward. The Australian manager dropped
him from the squad for their first Premier League fixture of the season against Brentford, sending out signals that Dier’s time at Tottenham is about to end.
With his contract running out in less than 12 months, offloading him now does make sense. And, the fact that the £85,000-a-week utility man is way down the pecking order suggests that a move elsewhere would
be better for him as well.
Meanwhile, Harry Kane’s departure has provided Tottenham some financial boost and they are looking to make full use of it. Tottenham recently added Micky van de Ven to their ranks and are now keen on adding
another defender. They are also looking to add a new midfielder to the mix.
If they end up signing either a defender or a midfielder, they will most likely let Dier leave the club. With his contract running out in less than a year, he will be available for a cut price. And, there are quite a few
clubs interested in the 29-year-old English international.
