Bayern Munich had to show a lot of patience while dealing with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Harry Kane in the summer transfer window. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a shrewd negotiator when it comes to selling players. Despite Kane entering the final 12 months of his contract at Spurs, Bayern had to dig deep to get the deal over the line.

The Bavarian club had three bids rejected for the English striker before reaching an agreement with Spurs. Kane became Bayern’s record transfer as he ended up costing more than €100 million, including add-ons.

Getting Kane out of Spurs is a pretty big win for Bayern’s negotiating team. The English striker was expected to stay in London if a transfer was sorted before the start of the Premier League campaign. Moreover, Bayern faced competition from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.

Levy managed to get the deal on his terms. He managed to get close to €100 million for a striker who turned 30 at the start of this season and entered the final 12 months of the contract. While talking to a fan forum this week (via Telegraph), Spurs chief also revealed that they managed to include a buy-back clause in the deal for Kane.

“There is a buy back clause. He’s always welcome back. Harry’s a much loved and valued member of the Spurs family and forever in our history.”

Kane signed a four-year contract with Bayern. It remains to be seen when the buyback clause will kick in and what the transfer fee Spurs will have to pay to bring the England international back to the Premier League. Sky Sports in the UK is reporting that there is no fixed fee set for buyback, but Spurs will have the opportunity to match the fee should Die Roten accept an offer from another English club. Bayern are yet to respond to Levy’s comments about a buyback clause.

The 30-year-old forward will definitely go back to the Premier League later in his career. Kane is currently 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s record tally of Premier League goals. The England international will definitely look to break this record before bringing an end to his playing career.

For now, Bayern doesn’t have to worry about the buyback clause. Kane is definitely motivated to win big trophies in the next three years in Munich. The England international is yet to lift silverware in his career, so he is driven to make the move to Bavaria a big success.

Kane has hit the ground running for the record Bundesliga champions. The England international has scored four goals in as many Bundesliga games this season. He will be looking to extend this good goalscoring form when Bayern welcomes Manchester United at Allianz Arena later today in the first group game of the Champions League.
