Just in: Tottenham hero snubs Serie A switch with key reason identified for transfer breakdown

Tottenham hero Hugo Lloris has snubbed a move to Serie A for a key reason despite a deal being in place for the 36-year-old shot-stopper.

It’s been well-documented that Tottenham have been looking to move Lloris on for some time now.Hugo Lloris - Player profile 23/24 | Transfermarkt

Ange Postecoglou has gone about rebuilding the squad this summer and he has signed Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to fill the Frenchman’s boots this season.

Lloris is free to look for a new club and he is currently deemed surplus to requirement by Tottenham after 11 years of service.

It did look as if he would pen a deal with Serie A club Lazio as an agreement between Tottenham and the Italian outfit was in place.

However, the latest developments have pointed towards a U-turn which could see Lloris sticking around in North London for a little bit longer.

According to L’Équipe, Lloris himself has snubbed the move to Lazio as he is not guaranteed to be their number one goalkeeper.

Ivan Provedel is currently seen as the first choice at Lazio and Lloris would have to earn his spot as the first-choice shot-stopper.

The 36-year-old is looking for guaranteed game time and as Lazio cannot offer him a guaranteed starting spot, the deal looks to be off at this stage.

The same report also clarifies that Lloris has other offers from England, Europe and Saudi Arabia. However, it is also stated that the goalkeeper hasn’t completely ruled out staying at Tottenham.

His current deal runs until the summer of 2024 and he will no doubt have a big decision to make in the following weeks.

Tottenham looking to sell several stars

Along with Lloris, Tottenham are still looking to offload several other stars this summer. Postecoglou has a clear vision in mind and some players are likely to be shown the exit door.

As Spurs have already signed eight players this summer it is only natural that they are looking to offload some of their own stars.

Harry Kane has been their most high-profile departure this summer and he could be joined by several other stars in leaving.

Along with Lloris, the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Japhet Tanganga have all been given the green light to leave this summer.Fabio Paratici holds talks with AC Milan over defender Japhet Tanganga's loan | Daily Mail Online

Ndombele spent last season out on loan with Napoli and he did not feature in Tottenham’s season opener against Brentford.

The French midfielder has showcased a few glimpses of quality but has largely underwhelmed during his stint in North London.

He is under contract until 2025 and is more than likely to leave the club along with the likes of Reguilon and Tanganga.
