Just in: ‘They are not that good’ he predicts who will win on Saturday – Man City or Newcastle

Chris Sutton predicts the score of Manchester City vs Newcastle United

Newcastle United travel to the home of the champions on Saturday night, but Chris Sutton does not believe the Magpies will return to Tyneside with any points.

Eddie Howe’s side take on Manchester City at the Etihad, just days after Pep Guardiola’s side won the UEFA Super Cup in Athens. It is a quick turnaround for City, much to the despair of Guardiola.

They will have limited time to prepare, which could present Newcastle with an opportunity. It is one that they will hopefully seize, with the Magpies full of confidence after battering Aston Villa 5-1 on the opening weekend.

It is set to be a massive game on Saturday night, but it is one that BBC Sport pundit Sutton believes the Premier League champions will win.

Sutton has predicted this weekend’s Premier League results for BBC Sport, and believes that Man City will beat Newcastle 3-1 on Saturday night.

“Newcastle threw a lot at City at the start of last season when they drew 3-3 at St James’ Park and I think they will cause them lots of problems this time too,” he wrote.

“City have not been near their very best so far this season, but still beat Burnley and overcame Sevilla on penalties to win the Uefa Super Cup.

“Eddie Howe’s side will ask very different questions to both of those sides and I am expecting another really good game.

“I was tempted to go with a draw here because City played in midweek, but they are at home and they should come out on top, just about.

“Newcastle are good, but they are not that good.”

No pressure on Newcastle

Sutton thinks Man City will come out on top due to being at home, and the Etihad is a ground that Newcastle notoriously struggle at.Newcastle United vs Man City highlights and reaction as Haaland and Bernardo stage Blues comeback and VAR overturns red card - Manchester Evening News

But Howe will be keen to buck that trend, and knows his team have the skillset to hurt Man City. There was plenty of space in behind when they played Sevilla on Wednesday night, and that is something we could

really exploit with the speed of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle United v Aston Villa - Premier League

For Newcastle, it is a free hit. There is no pressure to get a result. We have already set out our stall this season by hammering Villa. There is no expectation going into the City game, and the players can play with

freedom, safe in the knowledge that they already have three points on the board.

We did well against City last season, and can take confidence from that. We will get chances, and it will come down to whether or not we are clinical.

That is what will decide the game, but Sutton believes it is Man City who will come out on top. He is backing last season’s treble winners to be victorious, and on this occasion it is understandable that we are the

clear underdogs.
