Washington barrier collapse: Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts wants NFL to take action
After a railing collapsed at FedExField on Sunday, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts wrote an open letter to the NFL and the Washington Football Team requesting improvements to FedExField’s safety protocols.
Hurts was seen leaving the field in a video that went viral on social media following the game in Landover, Maryland. A barricade gave way, sending visiting Eagles fans falling to the ground as they reached for a high five. Following the incident, Hurts has now inquired as to “what follow-up action is being considered.”
The 23-year-old continued, “My first reaction was to assist those involved through the initial shock.” “I recognize the gravity of the situation and have deep concerns for the safety of the media and fans.”
Hurts went on, “I want to know what precautions the NFL and the Washington Football Team are taking to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” “What transpired on Sunday placed players and fans in needless danger.”
According to a Washington representative, Jason Wright, the team president, has replied to Hurts’ letter. “To our knowledge, everyone involved was offered onsite medical evaluation and left the stadium of their own accord,” the team stated in a statement issued following the event.
The message went on, “We’re very glad no one appears to have been seriously injured.” “The safety of our fans and guests is of the utmost importance and we are looking into what occurred.” Some of the affected fans, nevertheless, have refuted WFT’s assertion that they were given the opportunity to get a medical evaluation.
Following Hurts’ letter, Reuters sent a request for comment on Tuesday, and the NFL did not immediately reply. By winning 20–16 on Sunday at FedExField, the Eagles secured their postseason berth.
