In a recent report, Alfredo Pedulla claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku this summer. It has been revealed that Spurs are facing
competition in the form of Juventus in the race to sign the Belgian striker.
Lukaku’s Impressive Loan Spell At San Siro Last Season
Lukaku enjoyed a decent loan spell at Inter Milan last season when he produced a handful of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Belgian sensation banged in
14 goals and grabbed seven assists in 37 matches for the Italian club in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The Antwerpen-born talent deserves some credit for averaging 2.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Serie A football. However, he needs to work on improving his
ball distribution in the final third based on his pass success rate of 72.5% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at his parent club Chelsea will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it would be difficult for Tottenham to land him on the cheap this month
Is Lukaku A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Lukaku excels at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the strength and power to cause a lot of headaches for the opposition centre-backs.
Standing at 1.91m, the Belgian talent can use his robust frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. However, he needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play up top.
We can expect Lukaku to add some firepower and physicality to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He might even help the North London club challenge for a top-four
finish in the Premier League this season.
Thus, it seems like Lukaku could be a decent option for Spurs to consider this month. However, he would only serve as a short-term solution to Postecoglu’s goal-scoring problems.
At 30, Lukaku has still got a few good years left in him and already knows the Premier League well by now. Hence, he won’t take any time to settle into life at the Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium if Postecoglu manages to get him on board soon.
