The five injured Cardiff City players at the moment and their return dates

Cardiff City has not had a good experience with injuries thus far in the season. While Bluebirds manager Erol Bulut has had to adjust players’ workloads in some positions, other players will still be unavailable for their club when they return from the second international break of the season.Fortunately, Callum Robinson and Josh Bowler have recently returned to full fitness, which will strengthen Cardiff’s attacking ranks. Yakou Meite

The forward has had a mixed start to life in the Welsh capital. He has clearly shown his quality and just why Cardiff wanted to sign him in the summer, exuding force and offering a different type of wide player to the ones City have at their disposal. He certainly gives them a physical presence in the top half of the pitch.

But the Ivorian has endured some fitness struggles in recent years and it was fanciful to expect him to go through another campaign unscathed. He suffered a hamstring strain just before the international break and it is expected to keep him out for a few weeks yet.

Expected return: Stoke City (November 4) | Potential games missed: Blackburn Rovers (a), Huddersfield Town (a), Bristol City (h)

Kion Etete

Another who suffered a hamstring injury away to Middlesbrough just before the break. The prognosis for Kion Etete is very similar to Meite, which is a shame because the striker appeared to be coming right into form.

Having started the season relatively poorly, considering how well he finished off last season, the striker seemed to be finding his feet once again, scoring goals freely and acting as a focal point up top. But he looks set to miss a few more games yet, meaning Ike Ugbo is likely to get a stretch of games – unless Callum Robinson gets the nod ahead of him.

Expected return: Stoke City (November 4) | Potential games missed: Blackburn Rovers (a), Huddersfield Town (a), Bristol City (h)

Callum O’Dowda

A big loss which has gone a little under the radar this season – largely owing to the positive start, results-wise – is Callum O’Dowda. But, to his credit, Jamilu Collins has filled in remarkably well in the Irishman’s stead.

O’Dowda was metronomic and dependable last year in a horrendous campaign and with the squad having been bolstered this summer, it was intriguing to see how much he would thrive within it. However, the wide man has undergone surgery in recent weeks and is facing a hefty spell on the sidelines. Taking Bulut at his word, we have to assume that will set him back 12 weeks from when we first heard about it. A massive portion of the season gone, in the grand scheme of things.

Expected return: QPR (January 1) | Potential games missed: Blackburn Rovers (a), Huddersfield Town (a), Bristol City (h), Stoke City (a), Norwich City (h), Preston North End (a), West Brom (h), Southampton (a), Millwall (h), Birmingham City (h), Hull City (a), Sheffield Wednesday (a), Plymouth Argyle (h), Leicester City (h)

Aaron Ramsey

After a scintillating start to his third stint with the Bluebirds, taking in six games, three goals and a South Wales derby win, a knee injury sidelined Wales captain Aaron Ramsey for a few weeks before the international break. Once Cardiff got the full lowdown on the problem, Bulut said he would be out for a further eight to 10 weeks a fortnight ago. (Although another three months would be added on if he does have to undergo surgery, so fingers crossed that isn’t the case…)

But as things stand, Ramsey still faces some time away from the pitch. He was seen at Wales’ 2-1 win over Croatia at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday and was said to be moving fairly freely, considering he has ruptured a tendon in his knee. Even so, we should take the latter end of that eight-to-10 week prognosis at the very least.

Expected return: Hull City (December 16) | Potential games missed: Blackburn Rovers (a), Huddersfield Town (a), Bristol City (h), Stoke City (a), Norwich City (h), Preston North End (a), West Brom (h), Southampton (a), Millwall (h), Birmingham City (h), Hull City (a)
