Leeds United receive multiple transfer bids over £15million from Everton for Willy Gnonto, ‘determined’ after Jack Harrison deal
Leeds United have rejected “a number of offers” from Everton worth in excess of £15million this summer for Willy Gnonto, according to Mail Plus.
Simon Jones reported in his Transfer Confidential for the newspaper’s website Monday (14 August) that the Toffees remained “determined” to sign the Italian teenager despite
landing Jack Harrison on loan from Elland Road.
The 19-year-old is “refusing to play” as he pushes to leave the club and is facing disciplinary action from the Whites as a result.
The Daily Mail had reported on 16 July a bid rejected from Goodison Park worth £15million, while the number of offers this summer doubled in a report from The Times on 10
August.
However, it appears that Everton didn’t stop at two bids have continued to push since then while increasing the money on the table, although the Whites are refusing to budge.
Harrison completed a loan move to Merseyside in the early hours of Monday morning after undergoing a medical on a dramatic Sunday.
Banging down the door
The level of intent from Goodison Park to sign Gnonto seems to be growing with every passing week at the moment, and it looks like the successful capture of one Leeds United
winger hasn’t changed that.
Since the former FC Zurich man is one of the rare members of the Whites squad not to have a relegation release clause the club look to be holding on for dear life since they are
powerless to prevent the exits of other stars around him.
Since he has already missed two of the club’s three games this season under Daniel Farke the situation appears to have few logical conclusions now.
Either Everton up their offer significantly to the point where the Elland Road hierarchy can’t refuse and would value the cash to make incoming signings.
Or the Whites remain steadfast in their refusal to let Gnonto go and hope that he can be reintegrated into the team once the deadline has passed and his exit options are no longer
available.
Given the fanbase has already turned against him a big way in the wake of him holding out from match-day squads that would be easier said than done, but if possible his quality on
the pitch could be important for Farke.
Everton look like they are going to keep battling to sign him right up to deadline day, with Fabrizio Romano (11 August) reporting personal terms already agreed, but as of yet Leeds
have shown no indication of giving in.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been backed to make a move for a Premier League striker who is now for sale before the window shuts.
