‘I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM’: JAMIE CARRAGHER NOW IN AWE OF ‘SPECIAL’ NEWCASTLE PLAYER

Alexander Isak has made a strong start to the new Premier League season, scoring two goals in his side’s opener against Aston Villa last weekend.

Discussing Newcastle and their Swedish striker in a Q&A session for Sky Sports, Carragher said: “To beat Aston Villa, a team everyone’s talking about to be in the top six 5-1, unbelievably impressive.

“And Isak up front, I mean I absolutely love him, love him to bits.”

Isak scored 10 goals in 22 Premier League matches last term, but you would tip him to beat that this time around if he manages to stay fit, having already grabbed a brace against Villa.

Right now, Isak is one of the leading No.9s in the English top flight and has moved up a spot following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

Speaking about the 23-year-old after his performance versus Villa, his manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports that he is a “special player”.

The Englishman and Newcastle paid a lot of money to sign Isak, handing Real Sociedad £60m for his signature last summer.

However, in a market where midfielders are going for £100m, a match-winner like the Sweden international now looks well worth his price tag.

After all the money they have spent in this transfer window and their impressive display against Liverpool, many will be expecting Chelsea to reclaim their spot in the top four. But based on Isak and Newcastle’s showing versus Unai Emery’s men, there is a good chance that it will not be at the Magpies’ expense.

If the former Real Sociedad star can stay fit for the whole campaign, there is no reason why Newcastle cannot qualify for the Champions League again.
