Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear to Eric Dier that he remains free to leave the club if he can get himself fixed up – with an immediate exit, or even a January departure on the cards for the out-of-favour star.

The versatile 29-year-old has been with Spurs since a 2014 move to Tottenham from Sporting Lisbon. Now into his 10th season in north London, Dier has featured 361 times for the club, scoring 13 times and surviving a string of managerial changes in his time at the club.

However, the former England man has dropped right down the pecking order since Ange Postecoglou’s appointment and Dier is yet to feature under the Aussie this season.

To that end, The Athletic claims Postecoglou and Levy have made it clear to Dier that they are open to offers for his services this summer. With just nine months remaining on his deal, Dier will be eligible for a free-transfer move away come next summer.

To negate that loss, Spurs did all they could to try and offload the player before the window shut, only to see time, and a lack of suitors wreck that plan.

Indeed, Spurs tried to use Dier in a makeweight for Lloyd Kelly, the Bournemouth defender they attempted to bring in on deadline day.

And with Fulham also rejecting the chance to sign the defender or defensive midfielder, Dier has been told in no uncertain terms that his time as a Tottenham player is up.

Dier could yet seal a move overseas with various other transfer windows, such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia, still open.

But realistically, Spurs are now looking to the January window to offload the star.

To that end, the player will likely need to get on to the phone to his agent to find him another club to hook up.

On £85,000 a week, Dier will likely need to accept a reduction in personal terms with his next move; that is, of course, unless the chance of a lucrative move to Saudi opens up.

He may have fallen from the days of seeing his name linked with lucrative moves to Manchester United.

However, the player still has plenty to give. He might not be in Postecoglou’s plans, but Dier has, in the main, been a model of consistency over the years.

While arguably not pacy enough to operate as a modern-day centre-half, he can still do a job in the middle of a back three or even as a holding, defensive midfielder.

Wherever he goes next, Dier can look back on some excellent years’ service for Spurs. As well as clocking up 361 appearances, the 29-year-old also featured 49 times for England. His last cap came in 2022, meaning he now looks unlikely to reach the half-century.
