Neilson, the manager of Norwich City’s under-21 team, on Borja Sainz’s injury

Alan Neilson, the head coach of Norwich City’s under-21 team, is hoping that Borja Sainz’s ankle injury is not serious after he hobbled off during a victory over West Brom.

Early in the Premier League 2 match, the Spaniard hobbled off after being heavily challenged by Harry Whitwell of the Baggies, but Neilson allayed concerns over a potential long-term absence after the game.

Factfile: Getting to know Borja Sainz - Norwich City

Neilson told The Pink Un, “I assume he’s only had a tiny knock on his ankle. He will be evaluated by the medical professionals, but maybe things won’t be too awful.

He has some ice on his ankle, but the medical team should be questioned about it.

“He needs minutes, as the boss (head coach David Wagner) says. He will therefore be more focused the more minutes he has. You witnessed his incredible run in the first 10 minutes. However, he later suffered a minor ankle clip.

Adian Manning’s two goals assisted in a comeback victory for Neilson’s team at Carrow Road after they fell behind 1-0 in the first half.

“We didn’t start that well,” he added. “We weren’t really aggressive enough in closing them down, a little sloppy in possession.”

“But our bouncebackability was good. We got the goal back at the right time, and second half we dominated more of the play, which was really good.

“I still think we can play better than that, but the lads kept at it. The game was a bit stretched at the end, it went end to end at times, but second half we definitely had more control. It was a comfortable pace for us.

“There are little bits we’ve got to work on this week. We’ve got another game on Wednesday against West Ham, so that’ll be good for the lads.”
