Just in: Former striker for Newcastle United and Notts County is showcasing his skills at Crawley Town.
The small 28-year-old led the 4-1 thrashing of Newport County at Broadfield Stadium with two goals and one assist. The former footballer for Gateshead and Newcastle United put on a fantastic performance. Campbell was one of the 15 players Scott Lindsey signed, and he appears to be among the most astute.
When Dom Telford left, some fans questioned where the goals would come from; on Saturday, Campbell began to provide an answer. And he is excited to demonstrate what he and the squad are capable of.
“I think it’s cliché that it’s all about the team and the result but it’s true,” said Campbell. “And I think we showed what we’ve tried to do from the start of the season. We kept the ball well, we knew the conditions were going to be hot and if we could keep the ball moving, you get tired and I think it showed obviously second half we ran away with it and that’s what, that’s what we try to do and it’s always good when it comes off. When you join a new club, you want to impress your teammates and the manager, but you also want to show the fans what, what you’re all about as well. There was a good number of fans at Stockport, but obviously even more here today. So it’s great to get to get off the mark and, and sort of show what I can do.”
On Saturday, Reds will play home to Tranmere, a 22nd-place team that recently fired manager Ian Dawes after only one win in seven. Campbell wants to play that game in its existing format.
“Obviously, we all wanted to make things right right immediately after a 6-0 victory against Swindon. We felt that we should have won that game at Stockport, so we had a somewhat encouraging result there.
Therefore, even though a point appears to be a respectable result away from home, I believe we truly wanted to win it. Then it is clear that the guys on Tuesday were outstanding. And once more, today, we really did a great job.
“So it’s all about taking that momentum in the tram and yeah, it’ll be same whether we’ve won, whether we lose, whether we draw or the next game is the most important and, and we’ll be focused for it.”
