Everton foolish to turn down mega-money Amadou Onana transfer as £60m news emerges

Everton have made profits on plenty of players over the years, with Richarlison and Anthony Gordon recent examples.

The attacking duo could now be joined by midfield maestro Amadou Onana on that list, with Manchester United interested in his signature this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist

Nixon noted that no offer had been made for the Belgian international, with the Toffees looking for a fee of around £60million for the 21-year-old.

Such a fee would earn Everton a hefty profit, with the player having moved to the Merseyside club from Lille for €40million (£34.4million) last summer [The Guardian, 9 August 2022].Football rumours: Manchester United weighing up approach for Amadou Onana | The Independent

Toffees boss Sean Dyche should, of course, be doing his utmost to keep the youngster at Goodison Park for as long as possible, but the midfielder does represent the opportunity for Everton to receive some much-needed funds.

The club’s financial issues have been made clear in recent times, as have their struggles on the pitch, which have now continued from last season into this.

After managing to avoid relegation on the final day of the previous Premier League campaign, Everton began their new campaign with a 1-0 home loss to Fulham on Saturday (12 August).

Onana will be key to a better season this time around, but Dyche will also know that a couple of talented players could be brought in before the transfer window closes if Manchester United do fork out £60million for the midfielder.Who is Amadou Onana? The 21-year-old should be an automatic starter for the Toffees, but that wasn’t the case in the closing stages of last season amid the emergence of the likes of James Garner.

The England Under-21s player isn’t quite at the level of Onana, but he can develop over the coming months with regular playing time, with Dyche able to land a midfielder and perhaps even one or two players for other areas with the money that the Belgian would bring in.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are in attacking “dismay” after breaking an unwanted Premier League record against Fulham.
