Everton closing in on ‘fantastic’ Che Adams signing after long pursuit of Southampton forward
Everton are closing in on the signing of Southampton forward Che Adams, according to Paul Brown.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on 21 August, the former Daily Star journalist said the Scotland international has been a long-term target for the Blues and that a deal is “not far away” from being completed.
This comes after FootballTransfers reported on 21 August that the Toffees have agreed a £15million deal with the Saints to sign the 27-year-old forward, who his former boss Ralph Hasenhuttl referred to as “fantastic”.
“It looks like Everton probably will get Adams,” said Brown. “I think they’ve obviously been trying to find a deal for him for quite a long time. He’s been on their radar for many months.
“It looks like Southampton are willing sellers, and it’s not too far away from being done now, so I think Everton are likely to have a new number nine coming in which is good in a number of ways.”
Wait is almost over
It looks as though Everton’s wait for a new forward that will bring a wealth of experience is now almost over as they edge closer to the signing of Adams.
They have already brought in Portuguese attacker Youssef Chermiti, but the 19-year-old has very few first-team games under his belt and is likely to be one for the future.
Adams, however, has racked up a number of appearances for Southampton in the Premier League after scoring 25 goals and laying on 14 assists in 124 top-flight matches.
The Toffees will be desperate to complete a deal as quickly as possible after Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffered a nasty head injury against Aston Villa that could keep him out for a period of time.
The Saints striker has already made an impressive start to life back in the Championship after scoring three goals in the opening three league matches this season.
