Coventry City Set For Major Midfield Boost
Coventry City are set to welcome midfield duo Callum O’Hare and Jamie Allen back to training next week, following their absences as confirmed by Coventry Live journalist Andy Turner.
The midfield duo have been out for a significant amount of time, but are now set to return with Jamie Allen in particular close to returning to the match day squad, proving to be a major boost for Mark Robins’ side.
Both players are expected to return to training next week during the International break, with Allen in line to make the squad for the trip to Hull City.
Why have they been absent?
Beginning with Callum O’Hare, the playmaker suffered an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury during a Championship clash with Stoke City last December and is yet to return to group training since surgery.
Meanwhile, Jamie Allen sustained a serious heart issue during the off-season which saw him miss the entirety of pre-season for the Sky Blues and despite training regularly, he hasn’t featured for the club since last season’s play-off final.
Was a Hamer replacement needed?
During deadline day, some Coventry supporters were desperate to see a midfielder join but were left disappointed when the club only signed defender Liam Kitching.
However, with Yasin Ayari signing on loan, Callum O’Hare and Jamie Allen close to returning and Joel Latibeaudiere being able to cover the midfield, a replacement for Gustavo Hamer didn’t appear to be a priority for the Sky Blues.
A boost to Sky Blues fans
Callum O’Hare is arguably one of the club’s fans’ favorites and will provide an improved ability in the final third. He made 11 appearances last season, providing three assists.
Similarly, Jamie Allen had the best season of his professional career last season, making 42 appearances in all competitors, scoring seven goals and assisting two further strikes. He was one goal away from becoming the third player to hit double figures for goals and assists last season, behind Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres.

As a Sky Blues fan, seeing both Jamie Allen and Callum O’Hare closing in on a return to the squad is a major boost to the club’s midfield options this season.
O’Hare will arguably feel like a new signing to Coventry City supporters, whilst Allen flew under the radar last season and will be another boost to Mark Robins’ side.
