Everton determined to overcome ‘impasse’ for Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto, player ‘clearly wants to join’

Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto “clearly wants to join Everton,” although the Toffees are not willing to match the asking price, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The 19-year-old winger has been a target for Sean Dyche’s men throughout the summer and last Friday (18 August) handed in a transfer request at Elland Road.

Although, according to Phil Hay, as reported via The Athletic (22 August), the young forward has now been reintegrated into first-team training. However, Brown still believes he wants to make the switch from West Yorkshire to Merseyside.

“Gnonto clearly wants to join Everton and seemingly only Everton. He’s made it very clear to his club that he’s not interested in being reintegrated into the side and just wants to go,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT (22 August).

“It’s still a bit of an impasse and clearly Everton aren’t going to match the asking price that Leeds want for the player.

“So it’s just whether they believe they can turn this situation around or not, or whether the player is simply digging his heels in so much that Leeds just have to accept less than they wanted.”

It appears as if neither supporters at Elland Road nor Goodison Park are any closer to discovering the fate of the former Zurich player. What is clear is the player’s talent, with the Italy international a rare bright spark in a Whites side who were relegated from England’s top flight last season after a dismal campaign.

Gnonto also hasn’t covered himself in much glory since relegation to the Championship. On multiple occasions, he has refused to play this season which is never a good look, and something that might put off prospective buyers.

Unfortunately, at this point, Dyche doesn’t have too much room to be picky after yet another disappointing couple of matches in front of goal. Much like last season, his players have begun this one following the same trend, failing to score in either of their two Premier League matches so far.

Italy’s youngest-ever goalscorer would no doubt be a brilliant addition on Merseyside and it will be interesting to see where his future lies as the transfer saga continues.

In other Everton news, a journalist has urged a Toffees transfer target to snub the move.
