Everton defender Seamus Coleman to be slowly re-introduced, still out several weeks – Injury Expert

Everton defender Seamus Coleman will slowly be re-integrated into the first-team setup after his injury last season, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

In the 2-2 draw against Leicester City in May 2023, the Toffees captain needed to be taken off a stretcher and that ended his season.

On 12 May, he underwent surgery on his knee and has not played any games or returned to full training since then.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “His training looks to be limited right now with low-intensity training and re-acclimating him to football movements along with ongoing rehab in the gym.

His progression will really depend on how he’s responding so I can’t give a timeline on that but he looks likely to be out for several weeks based on the reported return dates.

Considering he had surgery and missed extensive time, he’ll very likely be re-introduced in a gradual manner with bounce matches.

Premier Injuries have reported that he’s expected to return by 21 October, but Dr Brar is refusing to put a timeline on it.

Currently, Coleman is back on the grass and is working with the physios as he looks to regain match sharpness.

The Republic of Ireland international may be subject to games with the under-21s to test his fitness levels before he can make his return to the Premier League.

The 21st is the Merseyside derby and it will be a boost if Coleman can return to action against their arch rivals Liverpool.
