How Coventry City helped Hull City secure big Leicester City victory

The Tigers face the first of two home successive games this evening against last season’s beaten play-off finalists

Hull City coach Liam Rosenior has praised his Coventry City counterpart Mark Robins for his part in helping the Tigers beat Leicester City before the international break.

The pair meet under the MKM Stadium lights on Friday evening in the first Championship game back after the two-week international break, but in City’s last outing, they went to leaders Leicester and ended their six-game winning streak courtesy of Liam Delap’s thumping first half strike.

Rosenior credits Robins with having a role in that, after seeing Coventry lose narrowly at the King Power Stadium on the opening weekend of the season early last month, and the way the Sky Blues set about the Foxes.

While Coventry sit 14th in the table and four points adrift of Rosenior’s Tigers, that defeat in the M69 derby was the Sky Blues’ only loss so far, with the Tigers’ head coach suggesting their points return was not where it should have been.

“I really like Mark Robins, I think he’s an outstanding first and foremost and a top, top manager. Obviously, they fell a hurdle short last season and they’ve had to replace and reinvest in terms of losing Viktor Gykores, losing Gus Hamer, very, very good players.

“From Mark’s point of view, because he’s got a clear way of playing he can identify the players he wants to come in and I think they’ve got nowhere near the points total they should have, their performances deserve more.”
