Zac Hosking signs with Canberra Raiders after Penrith release
Emerging backrower Zac Hosking will ply his trade at a third NRL club in as many seasons after he was released by Penrith to take up a deal with the Raiders for 2024.
The 26-year-old was contracted to the Panthers for the upcoming season but has now joined Canberra on a three-year deal through to the end of 2026.
Hosking joins a second-row contingent led by Hudson Young and Elliott Whitehead.
The signing comes as questions linger over the playing future of Corey Harawira-Naera following an on-field seizure in May last year.
“The Canberra Raiders are incredibly excited to announce the signing of Zac Hosking,” Raiders recruitment boss Joel Carbone said.
“In the brief time we’ve known Zac, and through watching him play in the NRL over the last few seasons, it’s evident that his work ethic, ability, and character will be great additions to our club.
“He also adds some versatility to our squad having played several positions in his career and we’re delighted to have him on board.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Penrith Panthers for their professionalism and transparency throughout this process.”
Hosking made his debut with the Broncos in 2022, playing four first-grade games before joining Penrith.
The son of Manly cult figure David “Mule” Hosking, featured 21 times for the eventual premiers, although he was left out of the preliminary and grand final sides.
Penrith thanked the Newcastle junior for his efforts at the club.
“After coming to the Panthers and being an integral member of the 2023 squad, we always knew keeping Zac at the club beyond 2024 would always be an uphill battle,” CEO Matt Cameron said.
“Making this decision now gives the club the opportunity to promote from within our full time squad.
“We thank Zac for his service to our club and wish him the best of luck with his future endeavours.”
The Raiders begin their 2024 campaign away to Newcastle on Thursday, March 7.
