The Fremantle Dockers are continuing their significant roster changes ahead of the 2025 AFL season by announcing they will not be renewing winger Ethan Stanley’s contract. This decision concludes Stanley’s short tenure with the club after he was drafted during the 2023 mid-season rookie draft.

Ethan Stanley’s path to the AFL was marked by determination and swift advancement. Hailing from Frankston, Victoria, the 20-year-old began his football journey with local teams such as Beleura and the Frankston YCW Stonecats. His skills eventually led him to the Box Hill Hawks in the Victorian Football League, where his standout performances opened the door to the AFL.

Stanley made his debut in Round 19 of the 2023 season, entering the game as a substitute against the Sydney Swans. He followed that debut with another appearance in an impressive upset victory over Geelong at GMHBA Stadium. Despite these promising moments, Stanley struggled to secure a regular position in Fremantle’s senior squad.

In addition to his limited appearances in the AFL, Stanley also contributed to the Fremantle Dockers’ WAFL affiliate, Peel Thunder, where he played 22 matches. However, his absence from Peel Thunder’s grand final victory against East Perth earlier this month was a telling sign of his impending exit from the Dockers.

Joe Brierty, Fremantle’s Executive General Manager of Football, expressed gratitude for Stanley’s contributions, recognizing the challenges of roster management. “These decisions are never easy,” Brierty stated, “but the Club appreciates Ethan’s efforts over the past two seasons and wishes him well in his future endeavors.” Stanley’s departure is part of a broader restructuring for the Dockers, who have also delisted forwards Matt Taberner and Sebit Kuek, as well as defender Ethan Hughes, in preparation for the upcoming season.
