Conrad Williams, the young forward formerly on Fremantle’s AFL list, looks set to continue his football career in the WAFL, joining Perth Demons for the 2025 season. After being cut from the Dockers’ squad during the off-season, Williams will now take on a fresh challenge in the state league, furthering his development with the Demons.
Williams, who had been part of Fremantle’s Next Generation Academy, was unable to make his AFL debut in the two years he spent with the Dockers. His time in Fremantle’s system saw him primarily playing for the club’s WAFL affiliate, Peel Thunder, where he spent time in both the league and reserves teams. Despite his time at Fremantle, Williams only managed six senior games with Peel Thunder, along with 21 appearances in the reserves. His last season included just one league game for Peel in 2024, where he recorded nine disposals and two tackles in a Round 1 loss to East Fremantle.
With Fremantle opting not to renew his contract in September, Williams is now poised to join Perth Demons in the upcoming WAFL season. While the club has yet to officially announce his signing, a new profile for the 19-year-old forward has appeared on the Demons’ website, signaling his expected arrival. Williams will be joining a Perth side that is undergoing significant changes, including the appointment of Mark Stone as the new senior coach for 2025. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Demons, who are looking to bounce back after a tough 2024 season in which they finished ninth with just four wins.
Williams’ move to Perth adds to the club’s growing list of players with AFL experience. He will join a group that includes former Geelong players Sam Simpson, Charlie Constable, and Blake Schlensog, all of whom have made the switch to the WAFL. With the Demons gearing up for a fresh start under new leadership, Williams’ arrival could help bolster the team’s attacking options and provide valuable depth.
The Demons’ decision to bring in new talent like Williams reflects the club’s efforts to revitalize their squad after a disappointing run in recent seasons. With a new coach at the helm and the addition of former AFL players, Perth will be looking to improve their fortunes and rise through the WAFL ranks in 2025. For Williams, this move represents a chance to prove himself in a competitive environment and continue his football journey at a high level.
