Guard Marcus Smart played his first nine years of professional basketball with the Boston Celtics after being selected by the organisation in the 2014 NBA Draft.
He shared the court alongside players like Jayson Tatum, Isaiah Thomas, Jaylen Brown, and Rajon Rondo while he was a member of the Celtics. After the controversial 2013 deal that transferred Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets, he played a key role in ushering in a new era of Celtics basketball.
He participated in five Eastern Conference Finals series and one NBA Finals series while playing for the Celtics, where he was awarded the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Award.
But the Celtics dealt Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies in the summer of last year. Boston earned its first NBA title since 2008 during their first campaign without Smart since 2013–14.
Smart recently said that Boston’s championship win was “bittersweet” in an interview with Tidal League. He did, however, add that he was “proud” of his previous comrades.
