EVERTON TRANSFER NEWS: ALAN SHEARER SAYS HARRY MAGUIRE WILL STILL LEAVE MANCHESTER UNITED

Alan Shearer thinks Everton transfer target, Harry Maguire, will still leave Manchester United despite a rumoured failed move to West Ham United.

The Premier League legend thinks that Harry Maguire and Manchester United are ‘playing a game’ regarding his future and rumoured dispute over a payoff regarding his contract.

The 30-year-old has two years left on his current deal and Shearer added that he ‘understands’ and ‘agrees’ with the centre-back’s current contract situation, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

There were strong talks that West Ham United wanted to sign Maguire, but with the imminent arrival of Konstantinos Mavropanos, that deal is now off.

Then there is talk of Sean Dyche’s Everton, who conceded four at Aston Villa on Saturday, that are keen on the hard-hitting defender, as reported by TeamTalk.

As it stands, Maguire stays put, but Shearer can see all of that changing for the £190k-a-week star (Spotrac) by the time the 2023 summer transfer window slams shut.

“I get why he’s not though (leaving Manchester United), I totally get his stance (re his contract and pay-off),” said Shearer.

“It’s clear he doesn’t want to and it’s clear he (ten Hag) doesn’t fancy him. Pay him up and let him go.

“I think both parties are playing a bit of a game. I would be surprised if Harry would still be at Manchester United at the end of the window.

“I get his stance, I understand his stance and I agree with his stance. But I do think that, yes he has to get out and play at that age, but I think it could be resolved before the end of the window.”

Should Everton sign Maguire?

That Michael Keane performance against Aston Villa was a nightmare of the highest order and a massive worrying sign for the club and its fans.

Yes, everyone talks about Everton’s lack of attacking intent and bite, but they have the numbers in the forward areas, it’s just a case of players getting fit, and then settling them down, before they can motor forward.

But the defence is also a major issue because players like Keane can’t cope with the pace of the Premier League, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Dyche pushing the Toffees to make a late move for Maguire because he does suit his style.
