The Brooklyn Nets might easily make a trade to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. All they need to do is make Mikal Bridges accessible, and the Nets are obviously not interested in doing that.
Dorian Finney-Smith, a seasoned forward, is one of their few resources, but they don’t have many options or players they can trade in order to advance into the draft.
“By putting Dorian Finney-Smith on the table, Brooklyn could get back into the middle or late first round,” Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report writes.
This past season, Finney-Smith, 31, started 56 games for the Nets and averaged 8.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. Despite being a good player, he only has two years left on his contract and doesn’t match the Nets’ schedule. Finney-Smith would most likely be available if his contract were up, but since he still has two years left, a team that is ready to bite might be able to acquire a first-round pick.
A possible trade partner for Finney-Smith would be a team like the Phoenix Suns at No. 22 or the New York Knicks at Nos. 24 or 25.
The Nets need younger players in the end to move on with their rebuild. Finney-Smith isn’t that, but if Brooklyn plays its cards correctly, he has the potential to develop into a player with a far greater ceiling.
