A handful of Premier League newcomers have made an early impression for their new clubs during a busy summer transfer window.
And WhoScored.com is on hand to lay down their top ten new newcomers in England’s top flight.
To provide context, players who have made three or more appearances are considered, as are those who have had their loan transfer made permanent this summer.
Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion since Todd Boehly took over the club last summer, with Axel Disasi leading the way this season.
And WhoScored.com is on hand to lay down their top ten new newcomers in England’s top flight.
The Frenchman arrived from Monaco to improve the Blues’ defense, and he has a WhoScored.com rating of 6.93 in four appearances.
Disasi scored on his debut and was named player of the match in the eventual 1-1 tie with Liverpool.
While Chelsea has had a disappointing start to the season, Disasi has been a rock for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with 101.8 passes per game ranking fourth in the division so far.
Micky van de Ven (Tottenham Hotspur) – 7.01 rating
Spurs appear to have finally secured their long-term replacement for Jan Vertonghen in the form of Micky van de Ven, the first of five Tottenham players to make the cut on this list.
The Dutchman signed from Wolfsburg and hasn’t looked out of place in England’s top flight.
A pass success rate of 93.5 percent ranks fourth among all Premier League centre-backs this season, while 15 clearances rank 15th, with the 22-year-old frequently in the right place at the right time to relieve pressure on the Spurs goal, earning him a WhoScored.com rating of 7.01.
Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham Hotspur) – 7.11 rating
Guglielmo Vicario, who is still at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, was a surprise arrival at Spurs following his summer move from Empoli.
The north London club were interested in David Raya before moving on to Vicario, and despite some early jitters, the 26-year-old has looked strong in goal.
Only Alisson (90%) has a greater save success record in England’s top flight this season than the Italian (84.2%), while 15 stops, the seventh most, have guided the Tottenham shotstopper achieve a WhoScored.com rating of 7.11.
Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham Hotspur) – 7.19 rating
Dejan Kulusevski joined Tottenham on loan from Juventus 18 months ago, and the move was only confirmed permanent in June.
The Swede scored his first league goal of the season in the 5-2 win over Burnley last weekend, and he’s been unlucky not to have an assist despite averaging 1.8 important passes per 90 minutes.
His 13 tackles and interceptions combined are very impressive, contributing to Kulusevski’s WhoScored.com rating of 7.19.
Moussa Diaby (Aston Villa) – 7.20 –
After a strong start to life at Villa Park, Aston Villa’s club record signing makes the cut. Moussa Diaby has been personally involved in three goals in four appearances, scoring twice, and has rapidly established himself as an important player for the Villans under Unai Emery.
Diaby quickly formed a great attacking partnership with Ollie Watkins, and communication between the two strikers was crucial.
The 24-year-old has more to offer, but a WhoScored.com rating of 7.20 reflects a remarkable start to his Villa career.
7.25 rating for Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool)
Dominik Szoboszlai’s first goal for Liverpool was memorable. On his route to a 3-0 win over Aston Villa, the former RB Leipzig player connected wonderfully with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner, shooting past Emiliano Martinez from 20 yards.
The 22-year-old has settled in nicely at Anfield, contributing 1.8 vital passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes, supplying firepower from midfield after getting the better of a marker.
It won’t be long before the 22-year-old, who has a WhoScored.com rating of 7.25 thus far, is tearing up the Premier League.
4. Declan Rice (Arsenal) – 7.27
Declan Rice, Arsenal’s star summer signing, has a WhoScored.com rating of 7.27 in four appearances this season.
Rice’s best performance in an Arsenal shirt came in Sunday’s thrilling 3-1 win over Manchester United, when he scored at the precise time for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The England international is 13th in tackles and interceptions combined (16), and his pass success percentage of 91.6% demonstrates how swiftly he has adapted to his new surroundings.
3. Pedro Porro (Tottenham) – 7.40 rating
Like Dejan Kulusevski, Pedro Porro also saw his Tottenham move made permanent over the summer.
Joining back in January, it was difficult to see how Porro, a wing-back by trade, would fit in under Ange Postecoglou, the Australian favouring a four-man defence.
Yet the 23-year-old, who played no part in the opening weekend 2-2 draw at Brentford, has performed admirably from right-back.
The former Sporting man registered his first assist of the season at the weekend, and that’s helped to return a WhoScored.com rating of 7.40 so far.
2. James Ward-Prowse (West Ham) – 7.70 rating
After a lengthy transfer pursuit, West Ham finally secured the services of their number one midfield target last month, and James Ward-Prowse was certainly worth the hassle.
No player has registered more assists than Ward-Prowse (3) in the Premier League this season, and to go with his goal against Brighton, the former Saints man has been directly involved in a goal in his three West Ham performances to date.
The 28-year-old is performing above the standards many perhaps expected so early on, and that has seen the England international return a WhoScored.com rating of 7.70.
1. James Maddison (Tottenham) – 8.08 rating
Leading the way is Tottenham star James Maddison. Maddison set Spurs back around £40m, but with Harry Winks heading to Leicester for £10m, there is an argument to be made that the north London side can deduct that from the 26-year-old’s fee.
The former Foxes star has been a revelation in a Spurs shirt so far. He has scored twice and laid on an additional two assists, and is already a fan favourite for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
A WhoScored.com rating of 8.08 is not only the best for a new Premier League signing, but the highest in England’s top tier this term overall.
