The Newcastle midfielder gave Brazil the lead early in the game through a Raphinha, but Daniel Munoz of Colombia tied the score in stoppage time of the first half.
Brazil placed second in the group, while Colombia advanced as the winners, according to the outcome. It also sets up a matchup with Uruguay on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Brazillian football has been through a difficult time lately since Guimaraes and his teammates are frequently held to extremely high standards.
