Dan Bardell moots Aston Villa links to Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos, claims ‘there’s no room’ for Emery reunion

We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views

on the biggest talking points at the club…

Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is unlikely to come to Aston Villa as the club are not looking to recruit in his

position this summer, according to Dan Bardell.

Villa have been linked with the Spaniard throughout the summer, with Spanish outlet Sport claiming (2 August) that Unai Emery’s side

are preparing a £12.9million offer despite Ceballos’ current tendon injury.

A move could see Ceballos reunite with Emery after their time at Arsenal, but Bardell has mooted claims of a move to Villa.

Bardell claims that while the Real Betis man had been of interest to Villa, the club’s lack of desire to recruit in his position will make it

unlikely that they’ll make a move for him, while the squad’s depth in his position makes it pointless.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Emery worked with Ceballos when he was at Arsenal. I think he’s a player that Villa

have held interest in, rather than someone they definitely wanted to make a move for or make a bid for.

“Clubs have so much interest in different players and I just believe there was something in that. But Villa have such a high-level central

midfield now with Kamara, Luiz and Tielemans. In certain games, we could probably see McGinn playing there as well.

“I think there’s no room for that kind of player. He’s a lovely football player on his day. You don’t play for a team like Real Madrid if

you’re not a good player.

“But maybe had they not signed Tielemans, he might have been someone they looked at. But Villa got a better deal in getting Tielemans on a free.

“I don’t think Villa are looking to recruit in that area of the pitch, anymore.”

In other Aston Villa news, Jamie Carragher has revealed his verdict on Villa’s “unbelievable” new signing.
