Conner and Selena’s love story began at a curling camp when they were just 14 years old. Their friendship blossomed into romance two years later, and by the age of 16, they were a couple. Reflecting on those early days, Selena fondly remembers, “Neither of us had our license at the time, so our parents had to drive us around.” Their relationship grew over the next decade, culminating in Conner’s proposal.

The engagement took place on Canada Day in 2017. Selena had planned a dinner outing with friends, with the intention of meeting Conner later to watch the fireworks. However, dinner extended longer than expected. When they finally reached the park, Conner seized the moment. “As soon as we could see the fireworks, he asked me to marry him,” Selena recounts. “Given my habit of being late, it seemed fitting that I was also late to my own engagement.”

The couple’s wedding embraced a modern romantic theme, featuring a color scheme of burgundy, blush, and rose gold. They chose the St. Boniface Golf Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as their venue. For the decor, they opted for simplicity, with gold geometric centerpieces and gold mercury votive candles. Selena appreciated the understated elegance of the setup, stating, “The decor was perfect—simple and not overwhelming.”

Selena had always dreamed of a beautiful wedding gown, and she found her perfect dress in a vintage Stella York design. The gown, which boasted a form-fitting silhouette and a striking open back, made her feel exceptional throughout the day. “It was everything I had envisioned,” she says.

One of the highlights of their wedding was the reception. Known for their lively dance moves, Selena and Conner’s friends and family filled the dance floor. When Selena’s favorite song, “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, played, guests eagerly joined her in celebration. “I was surrounded by everyone as I danced with pure joy,” she recalls.

Selena Katz and Connor Njegovan celebrated their wedding on August 10th, 2018, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The day was beautifully captured by Rygiel Photography.
