GOOD NEWS ; Closing in on manager appointment as former Premier League boss in the frame

Burnley have been without a head coach since Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich at the end of May.

Scott Parker, the former manager of Fulham and Bournemouth, is reportedly in the running to take over as Burnley’s new manager. Earlier in the week, rumors circulated that Burnley had approached Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand in an attempt to terminate their managerial hunt.

But according to Football Insider, the Clarets and Parker are currently in advanced negotiations. The Burnley Express, a local news source, maintains that nothing is imminent despite the report’s assertion that the club would be able to announce the appointment by the end of the week.

Burnley has been searching for a new manager to guide them through the upcoming Championship campaign since Vincent Kompany decided to leave Turf Moor in May to join up with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

However, the Dutchman will now be joining Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Manchester United.

After Denmark’s elimination from Euro 2024, Hjulmand emerged as the clear favorite for the role; nevertheless, it appears that Burnley is now interested in Parker. In his first season in charge of Fulham, the former England international guided the team to promotion. He joined the management team in 2019.

He made the same comeback when he joined Bournemouth in 2021. In his first season there, he led the Cherries back to the Premier League before departing the Vitality Stadium after a Premier League defeat to Liverpool by a score of 9 to 0. In his last position, Parker managed Club Brugge for 12 games, winning just two of them. However, he wasn’t nearly as successful.

As such, since departing Belgium in March 2023, he has been searching for a new position. Although it’s unclear what Craig Bellamy, a longtime assistant and acting head coach, would gain from the job, the Welshman is still participating in preseason training at Burnley, where the team is currently halfway through its second week of play.
