‘Confident’: Chelsea still think they’re going to sign ‘fantastic’ player despite developments yesterday – Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea still believe they are going to sign Moises Caicedo this summer from Brighton.

He told Caught Offside that they remain on it despite reports yesterday that they may be about to face some competition for his signature.

It emerged yesterday afternoon that another club, who at this point are unnamed, had made a bid that exceeded the amount Chelsea had coughed up at this stage for Caicedo.

It has been widely reported that the Blues see the Ecuador international as their number one priority to bring in this summer.

This is reportedly echoed by manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has made it clear that he feels his squad is not yet perfect just over a week from the start of the Premier League season.

The perfect partner for Enzo Fernandez is something the club are desperate to bring in. This will result in him being allowed to show his brilliance going forwards.

Romano has now claimed that the Blues are confident still that they will be able to get a deal over the line to bring Caicedo in.

He said: “Chelsea remain on it and confident. Negotiations are ongoing with Brighton for both Caicedo but also for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Discussions are taking place, it’s difficult but absolutely on.”

It looks as if they are going to have to stump up close to the fee they paid just months ago for the World Cup winner if they want to complete the signing.

Negotiations do seem to have hit a wall right now, especially after Brighton found out for sure that they would not be letting Levi Colwill leave in return.
