‘CHASE THAT’: HE WANTS TO LEAVE ARSENAL AND JOIN PREMIER LEAGUE RIVALS

Ale Moreno has backed USMNT’s number one goalkeeper Matt Turner to leave Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and secure a transfer to Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest this summer.

The American-based ESPN pundit questioned if Matt Turner is good enough to dethrone Aaron Ramsdale as the club’s first-choice heading into the new Premier League season.

This comes amid rumours that Arsenal want to sign Brentford shot-stopper David Raya – the player is pushing for a move to the Emirates.

If Raya does join, then that becomes an issue for Turner, who would, more than , become the third choice and Moreno added that the 29-year-old needs to think about the long-term future of his career, as he told ESPN.

All of this also comes on the backdrop of claims that Nottingham Forest want to sign the American – the Midlands outfit want to sign twlikelyo keepers this summer and Turner is one of them.

Turner now has a big call to make, as Moreno backed him to ‘chase’ that transfer to Forest.

“When Matt Turner is playing well with the national team, then the conversation becomes ‘he needs to get playing time and is he going to get that ahead of Ramsdale?’” said Moreno.

“It makes sense to ask the question, if Ramsdale isn’t good enough (amid Raya rumours). Does that mean Turner gets an opportunity? If he does, then you stay at Arsenal.

“But if he is going to sit on the bench, then I can see where, if you are Matt Turner, you want to find an opportunity to continue to be in goal consistently. You aren’t looking for this season, you are thinking ahead and what’s best for you and your career.

“For a goalkeeper, if you think you are good enough to be a number one somewhere and still stay at the highest level possible, then you are going to chase that opportunity (to Forest).”

Time for Turner to move on

Arsenal nabbed his talents in 2022 from MLS side New England Revolution and he has played a back-up role to Ramsdale during that period.

Given that Turner was training with and playing against elite-level players, in comparison to the MLS, then he would have learnt a lot from this experience.

But now is the time to move on, throw himself into the deep end, become a number one regular on the Premier League stage and try to take his game to the next level.
