Celtic have managed to secure one new signing on Wednesday, but as the transfer deadline approaches this Friday, Brendan Rodgers is facing a significant challenge. The team recently saw a major player departure with attacking midfielder Matt O’Riley moving to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Despite this setback, Celtic has successfully added a new left-back to their roster. Alex Valle from Barcelona has joined the club on loan, completing his move after finalizing the details of the agreement on Tuesday. However, Celtic’s transfer activity isn’t over yet, and they are still aiming to bring in additional players. One of their key targets, however, seems unlikely to join before the deadline.

The Bhoys have been eyeing Mateusz Bogusz of LAFC as a potential addition to their squad. With O’Riley’s departure, the need for another playmaker has become even more pressing. Celtic had shown interest in Bogusz, as well as Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels. Unfortunately, Sky Sports reports that negotiations for Bogusz are at an impasse, with the two clubs reportedly far apart on the valuation of the player. As a result, Celtic is beginning to explore alternative options.

Bogusz, who previously played for Leeds United, has made a notable impact at LAFC. Since his move, he has scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists in 76 appearances. Described as ‘dynamic and exciting’ by LAFC’s general manager John Thorrington, Bogusz has proven his abilities across various attacking roles. Despite his impressive performances, it appears Celtic might miss out on signing him.

Celtic’s transfer strategy also includes pursuing Arne Engels, who could potentially become a record signing for the club. Engels, a 20-year-old Belgian, joined Augsburg from Club Brugge in early 2023 and has contributed three goals and nine assists in 53 games. Additionally, the club is in discussions for American center-back Auston Trusty but has yet to reach an agreement with Sheffield United. The team has also shown interest in Lazio winger Gustav Isaken, though the Dane seems hesitant about moving to Glasgow. As the transfer window nears its end, Celtic remains active in the market, hoping to finalize new additions before the deadline.
