The Carlton Football Club’s Board has officially announced the appointment of Graham Wright as the new Deputy CEO, marking an important shift in leadership at IKON Park. This transition, set to begin on October 14, involves a well-planned collaboration between Wright and current Chief Executive Brian Cook, who is recognized as one of the most successful leaders in Australian football.

Wright’s integration into the role will follow a structured transition period, where Cook will provide guidance and support. With Cook’s contract extending through the end of the 2025 AFL season, this handover is designed to prioritize the long-term health and success of the club. The decision to appoint Wright comes after a thorough search for a qualified successor, reflecting the club’s commitment to a seamless leadership transition.

With an impressive career spanning nearly four decades in elite football, Wright brings a wealth of experience to Carlton. After a notable 11-year playing career with Collingwood, he began his journey in recruiting with the Brisbane Lions in 2004. In 2007, he returned to Victoria to contribute to Hawthorn’s recruiting efforts, playing a pivotal role in the team’s remarkable success, including four premiership titles in eight years. Most recently, as Executive General Manager of Football at Collingwood, Wright revitalized the club’s program, culminating in a premiership victory in 2023.

Carlton President Luke Sayers expressed his confidence in Wright’s capabilities, stating that his unparalleled track record in elevating football clubs will be a tremendous asset for Carlton as it strives to compete for future premierships. Sayers emphasized the strength of the leadership duo, noting that the detailed transition period between Wright and Cook positions the club exceptionally well for the future.

In his remarks, Wright conveyed enthusiasm for the opportunity to collaborate with Cook and the executive team at Carlton. He acknowledged the club’s collective ambition and the strong desire among its members to achieve greatness. Wright expressed gratitude for the chance to engage with the passionate Carlton community and emphasized his commitment to building on the club’s recent successes. Brian Cook also highlighted the importance of this leadership transition in maintaining the strategic direction that has fostered Carlton’s growth over recent years, reinforcing a values-driven approach to excellence.
