Carlton Football Club has proudly re-launched its 2024 Indigenous guernsey in anticipation of the AFLW Indigenous Rounds. This announcement comes as excitement builds around the league’s celebration of Indigenous culture, a tradition that has been embraced by the team since its inception in 2021.

 

At the official launch held at Melbourne Museum, Carlton’s captain, Kerryn Peterson, highlighted the enthusiasm that players feel each year when donning the Indigenous guernsey. “This round is always highly anticipated by the players,” Peterson remarked, noting the significance of being able to showcase a unique design each season to honor various cultures.

 

For the first time, all four Carlton teams, including those in the VFL and VFLW, will sport the same Indigenous guernsey. This decision emphasizes the unity among the club’s various programs. The guernsey was designed by Stewart James, who is related to player Zac Williams, and features symbols drawn from Wiradjuri culture as well as totems representing the three Indigenous players on Carlton’s list for 2024. Peterson explained that the artwork, titled ‘Ngiyan hi’,
