Cam Fowler Leads Blues to Victory in 1,000th Game at Winter Classic

In a memorable performance at the NHL Winter Classic, Cam Fowler marked his 1,000th career game with an impressive two-goal outing, leading the St. Louis Blues to a dominant 6-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The game, held at Wrigley Field in Chicago on December 31, 2024, saw Fowler play a key role in his team’s success, which helped the Blues improve their record to 3-0 in Winter Classic games.

Fowler was not alone in his efforts; teammate Justin Faulk contributed significantly with a goal and two assists. His performance helped the Blues extend their strong form, winning three of their last four games. Dylan Holloway and Alexandre Texier also chipped in with a goal and an assist each, contributing to the Blues’ well-rounded victory. In goal, Jordan Binnington made 28 saves, providing a steady presence in net while the Blues surged to victory.

The game began with Fowler opening the scoring on a power play, showing off his skill as he maneuvered through the slot to beat Blackhawks’ goalie Petr Mrazek. Jordan Kyrou followed up shortly after, putting the Blues ahead 2-0 with a tap-in goal. The Blues had been struggling with their power play but found success early in this contest with their first two goals coming on the advantage. Chicago responded with a power-play goal of their own, as Ryan Donato’s shot rebounded off Binnington, allowing Taylor Hall to score from the right circle, cutting the lead to 2-1.

In the second period, Faulk extended the lead with a shot from the point, making it 3-1, and Binnington’s key saves—including stopping Hall on a breakaway—kept the Blues in control. St. Louis then added more to their lead, with Holloway scoring on a rebound and Fowler notching his second goal of the game, becoming just the second defenseman in NHL history to score twice in his 1,000th game.

As the game continued, the Blackhawks tried to respond with some physicality, as captain Nick Foligno engaged in a fight with Brayden Schenn after the Blues’ fourth goal. However, Tyler Bertuzzi’s power-play goal for Chicago in the third period wasn’t enough to mount a comeback. Texier sealed the game with a goal of his own, securing a comprehensive 6-2 win for the Blues.

The Blackhawks, who have now lost five consecutive games, were outmatched in this Winter Classic contest. Despite Mrazek’s 22 saves, Chicago struggled, particularly in outdoor games, where they remain winless in five tries. This defeat further highlights the challenges facing the Blackhawks this season as they look to regroup from this heavy loss. Meanwhile, the Blues celebrated a historic and high-scoring victory to cap off their appearance at the Wint

er Classic.
